NEW YORK, NY.- Just five years old, Aelita Andre whose solo exhibition at Agora Gallery in 2011 sold out in seven days, is returning to New York with a new collection of artwork. This exhibition is entitled ‘Aelita Andre: Secret Universe / a solo exhibition’ in reference to the unique access she is capable of giving her audience to the imaginative, elusive and enchanting world that adults find all too difficult to reach.
The exhibition opens on June 12, 2012 and runs through July 3, 2012.
At just five years old, Aelita Andre is an internationally recognized artist whose solo exhibition at Agora Gallery in 2011 sold out in seven days. Created with the joy and free spiritedness of her youth, her expressively colorful abstracts are remarkable evidence of how deeply ingrained the language of sight is in the human mind. Aelita’s fascination with the natural world which has led to her interest in documentaries by the likes of Carl Sagan and David Attenborough, also finds an outlet in her paintings, inspiring its themes and playing a part in the richness of her imagination. We understand far more visually and intuitively than we need to — or are able to — put into words. Aelita works until a painting simply appears finished; intention and message are at their most abstract in her art.
In ‘Aelita Andre: Secret Universe / a solo exhibition’ Aelita conveys her message through a bright, bursting palette and energetic splashes and dashes of paint. She works in acrylic, with occasional added objects such as toys like plastic dinosaurs, butterflies and penguins, and various other items, including even a microscope. Aelita creates swirling layers of paint splatters and uses iridescent neon glitter to form an intricate, kinetic whole. The structural rhythms are unmistakable and completely instinctive, reflecting an understanding of composition far beyond her
years. Complex yet accessible, sophisticated yet unguided, Aelita’s new works communicate a sense of excitement, encouraging the audience to tap into their own inner child.
The young Australian artist has received considerable international attention, appearing on major television programs such as 60 Minutes and Today Tonight, and being featured in articles in publications such as The New York Times, The Guardian,
Forbes Woman, Washington Post, the New York Post, Time and Britain’s Daily Telegraph. She recently exhibited her work in a London and Italy. Her upcoming New York exhibition begins on June 12, 2012 and will run until July 7, 2012, with an opening reception on Saturday 16, 2012.
